What is PLA?
PLA is a bioplastic, biodegradable. It is derived from renewable resources such as corn or sugarcane, it is therefore classified as a 100% biosourced plastic. PLA is considered biodegradable because it can be composted. In fact, even rigid plastic packaging can be composted alongside peelings and other biowaste.
This polymer is made from lactic acid, obtained by fermenting sugar or starch, which is then transformed into the monomer lactide. The polymerization of lactide produces the PLA polymer.
